“CRY LITTLE SISTER” SONG WRITER/PERFORMER GERARD MCCANN TO PERFORM DURING SHFF NOV 6, 7

Gerard McCann, aka G Tom Mac, original song writer of “Cry Little Sister” from the original motion picture soundtrack to The Lost Boys and a song on the Tru Blood soundtrack, will do 2 performances during the late-night SHFF fundraiser events at The Hive Gallery. These performances will also feature Brooke McCarter who was also in The Lost Boys and in a featured film screening at Salty Horror called “Emerging Past.” Gerard has been a song writer/performer into three decades now and will add his energy and talent to make the first ever Salty Horror Rock Concert on Nov. 7 a huge event. As headliner Gerard will be precede by Utah horror rock band Die Monster Die and other local bands will fill the bill.

THE HIVE GALLERY JOINS SHFF AS MAIN VENUE FOR AFTER HOURS FUNDRAISER EVENTS

From Midnight until 4 am Thurs Nov. 4 – 6 and 10 pm until 4 am on Nov. 7; The Hive Gallery will be host venue for fundraiser events accepting donations for the Boys and Girls Club Greater Salt Lake and the Salty Horror Film Festival. The Hive Gallery, a privately owned gallery inside Trolley Square, has immediately seen another opportunity to truly be a community gallery in Salt Lake and branch out allowing fundraiser events to be held in the newly opened gallery space. All events will have a suggested donation attached to them with proceeds going to BGCGSL and the SHFF. Everything will be included with the donation fee even 2 performances by international music artist Gerard McCann (aka G Tom Mac). One of the nights will even be a calendar signing by Salty Horror Girls and Friday Nov. 5 will be a Who Said Halloween Was Dead Costume Contest with prizes from the SHFF sponsors.

CHARLES KAUFMAN PRESENTING SPECIAL SCREENING OF “MOTHER’S DAY”

On Nov. 6 at 9:00 pm Charles Kaufman will present his classic horror film “Mother’s Day” at a special screening celebrating over 20 years of the film’s cult status. Charles will also be on hand to field questions during a post film Q and A with one of the hottest topics being the 2010 re-imagining of “Mother’s Day.” By Nov 6 the new Mother’s Day will be out and there should be tons of questions for the director/bread store owner. That’s right. Charles has agreed to take time out of running Bread and Cie Bread Company in San Diego to talk to Salt Lake City horror fans. Come out and support Charles Kaufman, Troma Entertainment and the SHFF. We may have a few surprises from the world of Troma in store for the most faithful of you Troma fans.

Summer’s Festival Aug 27-28th

Every once in a while, something comes along that you know is just going to be awesome… I mean, something that goes on your calendar and you look forward to it every day wishing time would just move faster.

Well, here is one of those things. The Cadaver Lab have become proud sponsors of the Summer’s Dead Festival. The Summer’s Dead Festival is going to be a collection of Horror Punk, Metal, Psychobilly, and Punk bands from all over the United States.

The show takes place on Friday August 27 and Saturday August 28th at Burt’s Tiki Lounge (located at 726 S State St in Salt Lake City). Headlining the show will be Salt Lake City’s own Die Monster Die, who will play a set on both nights of the festival.

There are still many weeks until the festival but already there are a handful of bands who have committed to playing the festival:

The price for each night will be $10 and there will be no pre-sales of tickets, so get your asses there early! One last thing… we have confirmation that Die Monster Die will be providing some free drinks! What a bunch of nice dudes!

SHFF LAUNCHED THE FIRST SALTY HORROR GIRL MODEL SEARCH PRESENTED BY BLUE BOUTIQUE

Blue Boutique, the Utah Jazz, Huka Bar, Tina Thorup, Gabby Perez and April Frampton all came together to help produce the first model search on May 13 where three top girls were chosen as Salty Horror Girls. Local models will have other opportunities in more Salty Horror Girl Model Searches so check back for more information. Also in attendance at the model search were celebrity judges JJ Neward (Evil Angel), Jonathon Rogers, Don Shanks (Halloween 5, Evil Angel), professsional mixed martial artist Brandon Melendez and Aaron Lesue of the Utah Blaze. Thank you to the Huka Bar, all the judges, sponsors and contestants for making this first search a bloody good time. Stay tuned for links to photos from the event.

DARK ARTS FESTIVAL JUNE 11-13

Repo! The Genetic Opera Shadowcast May 28th and May 29th

Partner of the Salty Horror Film Festival, the Utah Scalpel SL,UT’s are performing a shadowcast of Repo! The Genetic Opera! There are midnight showings on both May 28th and May 29th. I had a chance to catch up with Cali Litton and Jen Ogle, both of whom play integral parts in this production, and they were kind enough to talk to me about the performance. You can read that article HERE. Make sure to be at the Tower Theater on either May 28th or 29th. Tickets are $10 and doors open at 11:30 both evenings.

Evil Angel Screening

Evil Angel, directed by Richard Dutcher and starring Ving Rhames, is screening at the the Boradway Movie Theater Tuesday, May 18 at 7 pm.

This is a special Utah screening of the film that is winning awards all over the country at horror film festivals. Take advantage of this opportunity to see a 35 mm print of this film. There won’t be another opportunity until Nov. 4 when Evil Angel is the opening of festival screening at the SHFF.

Richard has agreed to open the festival in a red carpet, big deal, screening with many of the cast and crew invited.

The May 18 screening at the Broadway will also include a Q and A after.
